Event Planning Questions:
Location of the tent is the largest factor in deciding on a pole tent vs. a frame tent.
Pole tents are much more common for outdoors parties than frame tents. They simply require a surface in which stakes can be driven into the ground. Any grassy area, whether in a residence, park, business, or any other venue, would be an ideal spot for a pole tent.
IMPORTANT: All pole tents require at least 6 additional feet in length and width of the tent for proper staking. Example: 20’ x 30’ pole tent would require a 26’ x 36’ area. In some circumstances, pole tents can be set up in asphalt. Additional fees are applied for the extra labor involved plugging of holes in asphalt at the end of the rental.
Frame tents are commonly used in tighter areas, as they do not require additional space for staking. Decks, patios, parking lots, or anywhere that stakes cannot be used are ideal locations. Weights are frequently used to anchor down the frame tent.
If you are not sure how to go about choosing a tent size for your event, the following questions will guide you through your decision:
- How many people will be attending?
- What type of surface will the tent be installed on? Grass, gravel, blacktop etc? Is the surface level?
- What size and shape tables do you prefer?
- Will you need a head table, buffet table, cake table, beverage area, etc.?
- Will your event continue into the evening hours? Do you need lights or heaters?
- Would you like a dance floor under the tent?
- Does your entertainment require a surface for their equipment? Do you need a stage?
- Is it a buffet or sit down dinner?
- Does your caterer require a seperate area for food preperation?
Once you know what your event will be like, it is time to look at Table Sizes And Seating to determine the space you need.
Table Sizes for Seating Up To 10 People at a Dinner Party:
A rectangular 6’ by 30” table seats up to 8 people
A rectangular 8’ by 30” table seats up to 10 people
A 48 “ round table seats 6-8 people
A 60” round table seats 8 to 10 people.
There are some occasions where people expect and don’t mind being crowded, like a Christmas or family birthday dinner. It’s part of the whole tradition to squeeze in at every corner.
At other times, if you want to have more people than your table fits comfortably, consider having a buffet instead.
